Manufacturer: Alkem
Pharmaceutical name: Amoxicillin
Pack: 10 pills (500 mg)
Almox is an antibiotic from the aminopenicillin class with a broad range of effectiveness. It works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls that are susceptible to Amoxicillin. These cell walls protect bacteria from their environment, and by blocking their construction, Amoxicillin prevents bacterial growth.
Amoxicillin is effective against various bacteria including H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoeae, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and some Staphylococci strains. However, bacteria that produce penicillase are resistant to Amoxicillin. Almox does not combat mycobacteria, mycoplasmas, the Rickettsia genus, fungi, amoebas, plasmodium, viruses, as well as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus spp. (with the exception of P. mirabilis).
Use Almox strictly as directed by your physician. Prior to taking Almox, inform your doctor if you have allergies to cephalosporins, a history of asthma, significant liver or kidney issues, bleeding or clotting disorders, mononucleosis, or any type of allergic reaction. Almox can be taken with or without food. The chewable tablet should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Take Almox whole with a glass of water.
Almox may reduce the effectiveness of certain contraceptive medications. Continue taking Almox even if you feel well, as the life cycle of bacteria has specific characteristics. Stopping Almox before completing the treatment may lead to further bacterial growth and the development of resistant strains. Do not administer this medication to others with similar symptoms, as their condition may be caused by different microorganisms. Antibiotic treatments can lead to diarrhea; therefore, inform your doctor if this occurs. If you are breastfeeding and taking Almox, the medication may pass into breast milk and cause diarrhea in your infant. Alert your doctor if you have asthma.
Allergy symptoms (such as hives, swelling, and rash) can occur with Almox, as well as potential side effects like diarrhea, dizziness, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, itching, vomiting, confusion, abdominal pain, and easy bruising.
Almox is not known to reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, increases the absorption of digoxin, and heightens the toxicity of methotrexate. The elimination of Almox by the kidneys can be delayed by aspirin.
Avoid taking two doses of Almox at the same time. If you are close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
Symptoms of Almox overdose may include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and disturbances in fluid and electrolyte balance. Seek medical assistance if you experience these symptoms.
